Dryopteris affinis (Lowe) Fraser-Jenkins; D. affinis (Lowe) Fraser-Jenkins subsp. affinis; Western Scaly Male Fern; Western Golden-scaled Male Fern
Five subspecies have been defined by Fraser-Jenkins, of which two occur in both Britain and Ireland, and another in Southern Ireland only. These are:

D. affinis subsp. paleaceolobata
D. affinis subsp. kerryensis
